About Me!

Ken's Dogs is an "owner operator" company, based in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, dedicated to teaching people how to train their own pups and dogs. It was established by Ken Hamilton in Delta, B.C. Canada in 2008 and has moved with him, back to his native Scotland in 2012. Ken has been a professionally qualified Guide Dog Instructor since 1978, in the UK. He has also worked in Norway and Canada where he has had several technical roles with Guide Dogs as a trainer and a manager. Ken also had involvement with the training of Autism support dogs whilst in Canada.
Primarily Ken has enjoyed training Guide Dogs and visually impaired people in their use. His later years with Guide Dogs in the UK and Canada were spent managing and mentoring the socialisation and training of Guide Dog puppies with the volunteer families who raised them. For ten years of his career Ken had a part time role as an assessor for the International Guide Dog Federation and as such had the privilege of visiting dog training schools throught the world, advising on standards and offering technical advice.
One of his hobbies since 1983 has been Field Trialing Gundogs and he has had success at Open standard with all of his German Wirehaired Pointers.
Teaching retrieve to the members of the Spanish Federation of Hunting training course during 2002 was one of Ken’s gundog highlights.
He was an assessor for the UK Kennel Clubs Good Citizen scheme 2001 to 2007 and offers this training to clients.
As someone with a special interest in helping dogs to fit into our society Ken was a member of the Scottish Canine Consultative Council for over 12 years.
In 2014 he was technical advisor in a pilot scheme to train dogs and their handlers improve the lives of Dementia sufferers, through a visiting service. Dogs for Disabled, Guide Dogs and the Glasgow school of Art are the partners running the scheme.

Ken's purpose is to teach you how to train your dog/pup or solve its behavioural issues rather than to do it for you.
He believes the training will be deeper and longer lasting when the owner has established it and has the ability to refresh it regularly.
